Most of you by now would have noticed that Placement Partner is lightning fast again!  With the massive growth in recruiters logging in daily, it was time to move to the latest and greatest piece of technology we could lay our hands on.  Added to the fact that Telkom has recently doubled download speeds for most DSL packages, it makes for virtually no latency (fancy word for waiting).  We trust you’re enjoying the experience.

Annual scheduled maintenance will take place this weekend and the Placement Partner server will be offline from 11:00am on Saturday 8th September until 06:00am  Monday 10th September.

This is routine maintenance, which contributes to the continual and effective functioning of Placement Partner.

Should you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us (support@parallel.co.za).

Your quality database (QDB) stores your quality candidate records. It is very different to your Post Box in that the information on the candidate’s record has been updated, verified and completed.  In the Post Box you rely on the candidates CV for most of the information whereas in the QDB you have a profile of information.  What this all means is that the tricks you use to find new talent in the Post Box are not necessarily going to be effective when searching your QDB.

So how should you search your QDB?  I am so glad you asked!  Try this:

1 – Start with Sector and Job Function: This really is the best place to start.  Pull the right ‘file’ first and then we can focus on the details.

2 – Refine your search: Once you have the candidates from the relevant sector and job function/s, enter one ‘knock out factor”, one criteria that is vital, for example a tertiary qualification.

3 – Refine your search again: Once you have narrowed down your search result to candidates who have what is essential, you can start getting picky and put in more criteria such as gender, equity, availability or even the ‘nice to have’ skills and experience.

Don’t begin your search by searching on Personal Information and don’t begin by searching with keywords in the CV contents field.

As a ‘rule of thumb’: start your search with the sector and job function/s and end with keywords.

*Update: Race report available, see below*

Parallel Software are proud to announce that we will be fielding a team for the Quantum Leap 250km unsupported adventure race to be held in Southern Namaqualand and the Northern Cederberg regions at the end of August.

Adventure Racing is a multi-disciplinary sport which pushes the boundaries of what can be considered normal in endurance racing. Each race is a once-off event and the checkpoints are placed on the course by the race director beforehand and retrieved afterwards, leaving no trace that there even was a race. The ultimate endurance sport, it tests bodies, minds and team dynamics to break point.

On this expedition race, mixed-gender teams of 4 will hike over 100km, use mountain bikes to traverse 160km+ of rugged terrain, abseil down cliffs and waterfalls up to 90m high and brave grade 4 rapids on a white water section. They will navigate their way across vast tracts of remote countryside in a non-stop race to collect checkpoints, sleeping only when necessary and ultimately end up where they started several days prior, completing a giant loop in the beautiful veld full of desert flowers and geological wonders.

Team First Ascent PlacementPartner.com consists of Kobus Steenekamp, Christine Woods, Murray Crichton and our own Ronald Jessop (captain). We wish them well on their endeavour and we will be following the live satellite tracking with interest as they make their way around the course for 3 days and nights starting from 23 August 2012 near Vanrhynsdorp.
