Happy Friday Recruiters!
As South Africans, we find ourselves in a strange situation – On the one hand we celebrate the budding revival of the economy and the reopening of many schools. On the other, we see the number of Covid19 infections soaring as we approach the peak of our curve.
The positive take away is the fact that once we get over the peak we’re headed down hill, hopefully towards normality!
As we go through these tough times it’s important to take special care of the most vulnerable among us, namely our cherished elders. Not only do our Grandparents need to be protected from the risk of infection, but they need our love, company and emotional support too.
Here are some fun ways you can show the older folks some love while keeping them safe:
A nice way to spend some time with your elders is to simply meet up at the gate of their home. A quick chat over the fence gives everyone a chance to catch up, get those warm neighborly feels and keep a safe distance too. Be sure to sanitize and goodies or gifts you drop off for them too!
This will be especially delightful if you have little kids to involve in the project! Get creative, get dressed up, even put on a little show and record a video – Not only is this a great way to keep Gran and Gramps entertained, it’s an excellent way for kids to bond with distant family members and build memories from afar.
You may be surprised by just how willing your elders are to learn how to use new technology if you give them a shot! Most video platforms offer the option of simply clicking on a link rather than having a long, complicated setup process. Look into which option would be easiest and walk them through it step by step. Get the whole family together for a video call at a set time every week. This gives everyone something to look forward to!
We are so fortunate to live in a world where we can stay connected, no matter the distance between us. Stay positive and share the positivity with those around you. After all, positivity is more contagious than any virus! The more you share it with others, the more you receive yourself.
Stay safe and warm!
